Went to a farmers market in Silicon Valley, bought some bread using Bitcoin

All Cryptocurrencies

This weekend I decided to go to the farmers market since I was back home visiting family. I live in the Bay Area which is very tech friendly.

I noticed this bread stand with a small sign that said "Now Accepting Bitcoin" I couldn't resist being the enthusiast r/cryptocurrency I am, so I chose a baguette of sourdough and asked how much it'd cost in BTC.

Instead of him telling me the amount I just played with the numbers until it was worth about $4. I opened my wallet, scanned the QR code he had printed out, and sent the Bitcoin. Then, we just had to wait for the confirmation to show on the blockchain. It was a little awkward standing there, both of us checking our phones and waiting, but it was also kinda cool to use BTC as a payment method.

After we got the first couple confirmations I walked away with my sourdough. Lowkey wish he accepted Matic or some other L2 with lowers fees though. Would have been faster and cheaper. Nevertheless it was definitely a step in the right direction, this was my second time paying with crypto just this week! I think it’s because of where I am right now.

And I’m happy to deal with the fees and long wait times for now because it’s my perspective that someone’s gotta do it for it to improve and become more common place.
