What do Redditors Think the Next Big Thing in Crypto Will Be? An Analysis of 600+ comments

So a few weeks back I asked the r/CryptoCurrency community what they thought the next big thing in crypto will be!

Inspired by u/Chysce & their post on What made redditors sell at the top in 2021, I decided to analyse the comments and try break it down into visual data!

1. Out of 648 comments, there were 298 'thoughts' that were identifiable - i.e. something that was clearly stated by the commenter which they thought would be the next big thing. If someone mentioned multiple ideas - Bitcoin, Ether, Zk - each of these were counted and their moons were counted towards each response.
2. Bitcoin & Ordinals were separated, as were Ether, ENS, and Soulbound tokens.
3. Layer 2 was captured as a commenter actually saying "Layer 2" / "L2", same for Layer 1.
4. "Other" is a blockchain/token/cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin & Ethereum mentioned (meme coins included).
5. I kept Zk as its own thing, I thought given the amount of people & moon weighting behind it, it deserved to be counted on its own.
6. Bank/Business Adoption is someone identifying "adoption" as a business use case or in the financial services world (pension plans etc.).
7. Regulation/Government includes mentions of CBDCs.
8. An approximate 1,507,223 moons are behind these reponses.

I decided to also provide what the sub thinks the next big thing would based on moon weighting. Privacy in particular was a stand out in this group!

• First off, shout out to the 5 people that said my mam would be the next big thing, she was delighted to hear!
• AI definitely took over the section both in # of instances mentioned + moon weighting.
• I was surprised by how high privacy was by moon weighting.
• It seems a lot of people see regulation & government involvement having a big impact on the sector going forward!
