What layer one protocols offer similar scalability to FBA?

So I've been in XRP and engaging with the XRP community since 2018. Initially I was drawn in by the banking partnerships (as I'm a pragmatist who's rationalized that banks & FIs will choose the ultimate victor in this space, as they manage over 98% of all the world's value). But I ultimately committed to XRP less so because of it's partnerships and more so because of the FBA protocol which XRPL is built upon. But I find myself feeling completely soured against XRP due to the hyper toxicity of not only it's community but it's community leaders...

As such I'm looking for someone to help direct me towards learning about other lesser known protocols as I'm convinced PoW/PoS are both dead end protocols which at scale become counterproductive to the intended purpose of crypto (decentralization of finance) due to the fact that the incentive structure of both models is already leading to ever more centralized/concentrated control of the networks governance.

While I do believe standard PoS systems are inherently flawed, I've not yet been sold on adaptions of PoS such as Ouroboros. But this is more so due to a lack of research into such networks.

Anyways, I'd really appreciate some suggestions/brief descriptions about protocols with incentive structures that actively combat centralization of the network and would really appreciate anyone who can link me the white paper/research papers on the protocols you have to suggest. Please, do not shill me your coins... I'm interested in expanding my knowledge of underlying technologies. If I like a protocol, I'll decide for myself which network has the most traction/likely chance of success. :)
