Ever since the merge, Ethereum has become deflationary. Another anticipated development in the works is the Shanghai upgrade that is scheduled to happen in March 2023. Long term HODLers of ETH who have faithfully staked their ETH since December 2020 must be beyond excited. Finally, their patience is rewarded and they can witness their ETH being unstaked.
Perhaps it’s because this portion of staked ETH comprises more than 13% of its total supply. Some people assume erroneously that all the staked ETH will become unstaked at the same time, thus flooding the market, creating an avalanche of selling waves and causing a dump in price. No matter how often it has been pointed out that the staked ETH will become unstaked progressively and that it may take up to a year before some HODLers can get unstaked ETH, this misconception persists like that word which we mispell, no matter how hard we try.
