What's bitcoin's endgame?

People are imagining that, in the future, you'll be able to pay for many products in shops via bitcoin. But currently there is no incentive to do so: it makes much more sense to hold on to your bitcoin and wait for its price to increase.

Is there ever going to be a point in the future where people will willingly part with their bitcoin and use it to buy goods and services?

This hasn't been making sense to me.
