Who was responsible for your interest in crypto?

I'm always curious to hear stories about why people started to invest in crypto. A lot of the time the story centres around some kind of eccentric figure.

Personally, I started investing pretty late (about 3/4 years ago). A friend of mine was buying up BTC and some other coins back in 2012. Our group of friends was all giving him shit, telling him it was a fad that was going to die off super fast, wasn't worth anything, and so on. Essentially what most people were saying about crypto back then.

Honestly, none of us really understood what cryptocurrencies were or how the blockchain worked. This friend saw the value in the technology and its 'uses' back then, but with all of us consistently telling him how dumb it was, he sold most of his tokens thanks to our stupid peer pressure.

What my friend told me about crypto did rub off a bit and quite a few years later I started to buy.

These days, I'm pretty sure he still holds a large chunk of his former investments (which he bought again back in the early 2010's), but he is living in a temple in a secluded jungle, deep within a South American country. He lives off a potent mix of acid, mushrooms, and local fruits (not joking).
