Everyday I see comments like "this sub has switched from hating nfts to buying reddit avatars". Thats kind of true but I think there's a big difference between buying a random jpeg and a cosmetic item everyone can see. Let me explain.
People like to show their money, they buy expensive watches, jewelry, clothes, not just because they like them, but because they want people to know they are wealthy. This has always been the case and it also applies to virtual cosmetic items.
Reddit avatars are comparable to skins in video games, you buy them to customize your appearance and look unique. Rocket league, counter strike, fortnite, name it. All those games have cosmetic items worth thousands of dollars. There will always be someone willing to pay big bucks to look as unique and wealthy as possible.
Im not saying avatars are guaranteed profit, but at least they have some kind of use. I spend a lot of time on reddit, I dont mind paying 13$ for an exclusive user picture, just like I bought a 10$ skin for my car in Rocket League. If I was rich, I probably wouldnt mind paying 1000$ for cosmetics. Thats why I think avatars are a better investment than any jpegs that no one knows even exist.
