Both Supersnets and Subnets essentially have a common goal and which is scaling the Ethereum blockchain. However, they both do it in different ways and focus on different aspects and here’s exactly where I think Polygon’s Supernets come on top of Subnets.
For those who don’t quite understand, Supernets are a new form of functionality introduced by Polygon that aims at solving the complexities that come along with bootstrapping a decentralized validator set. It also addresses security concerns when switching between different architectures.
Subnets on the other hand are Avalanche’s shading-inspired functionality that aims at scaling application specific blockchains.
Now that that’s out of the way, the reason why I prefer Polygon’s new Supernets over Subnets is cause Subnets are designed in a way that takes away value from Ethereum meanwhile Polygon’s Supernets do the exact opposite.
Supernets offer added value to the Ethereum blockchain especially considering that they will be supporting zk Rollups which is the exact direction that Ethereum is taking right now. zk tech is slowly but surely taking over and we all know how committed Polygon is to zk Rollups.
