Take a look at Trust wallet. One of the biggest. Can't they afford a desktop wallet? If they can't, I will volunteer to do that for free, it's not that difficult.
I think desktop wallet is still one of the safest options. What is definitely not safe is a mobile wallet, as you can lose it just by loosing your device you carry often with you. I know the idea is to make a dedicated device but honestly how many of average users those wallets target actually do that? It's just as stupid as mobile versions of traditional finance software. It's encouraging users to lose their funds. The reason to do that is just to track their data / make some more money. But it's a wallet! The safety should be the most important aspect of making it. Whenever there's a service that doesn't allow to check your balance in destkop / browser (no extension) I skip it.
And browser extensions? It's a disaster. I won't even go into how a terrible idea it is to use a browser extension wallet for anything more than a few dollars. Vast majority of stolen funds topics are browser exchange wallets. Recently I researched that there is at least a few hundred topics on crypto related subs about being scammed / funds being stolen while they use browser extension. One more hint. If you use a desktop wallet, never open it while your browser is opened. Just check transaction address, copy it, close the browser (or at least any tabs there) and then make a transaction. That simple trick keeps you safe from vast majority of tricks hacker might use against you.
