Anybody else doing just fine?

All Cryptocurrencies

Hey fellow anonymous strangers,

Anybody else doing just fine? I ask this because this sub is often epitomized by the loud, cranky, reactionary, and (more often than not) cringe voices like "I listened to this sub and I'm down 30%!"

I'm one of the latecomers to adopting crypto into my investments and it's been over a year since I first acquired some. And so far... I'm fine? As of this week, my entire current portfolio is only down 5-6% with my BTC stash straddling breaking even and ETH up 25% still.

It's not face-melting gains, but after a year of keeping calm and buying when I can afford it... I'm fine with my decisions. Sometimes I gambled a little but I never overinvested so that if the bubble ever does pop, I'll be miserable like everyone else but I'll still have a savings account and stuff.

Here's some triumphs/failures/observations from the last year that perhaps some of you can relate to:

+ I've been DCAing and HODLing and despite some of the more recent negative connotation to these acronyms , they've treated me quite well. I'll have some money set aside that goes into 1) Savings Account then 2) Retirement Account and then 3) crypto in that order. I'm in it for the long run, so I only pay attention to the dips if I want to buy more at a discount. If the market seems really scary, instead of SELL, I'll just not buy.

+ I did sell a little last year and actually made some sweet realized gains with ETH (I wish I didn't) and ADA (x3!) Oh yeah, I did buy DOGE at .04 and sell at .08 thinking I was really smart.

+ I don't know if it's still a thing, but I remember a lot of "Don't tell your friends and fam about crypto" in this sub. Well, I told my partner everything. I trust them. Make sure you surround yourself with people you trust before you go running your mouth! My partner still has no crypto.

some negatives:

- I used tax software in the end when I filed my taxes... but I would've been a lot happier if I had kept track of everything on a spreadsheet. If you don't do it right from the start, you're in too deep. I made way too many transactions across several exchanges. In the end, I got it all squared away but it was a pain.

- I impulse bought some crypto based on a comment/post/video and usually it wasn't a good idea. Luckily I practiced some restraint and didn't go hard. Some of these I went against my HODL mentality and sold at a loss.

- When I started, I was watching the charts and checking in here too much. It doesn't feel good after a while. At first, it was fascinating but now it's just an energy drain. I still poke around in the sub when I'm bored at work, but it feels gross. I feel gross writing this tbh. It's tired advice, but if you're in it for the long game, just ignore the noise and do fun things IRL.

*TLDR* I'm over a year into the space and I'm feeling fine. Anybody else? Or should we all be freaking out over the crypto winter and chanting "BTC to 100K by the end of 2021 /s!"?
