Coinbase gets a lot of hate, but check this out...

Like many of you, I freaked out when I got a message from Coinbase the other day that my 2-factor verification information had changed, fearing that someone had hacked my account. I immediately froze the account, only to find out that it was a system error on their part that falsely alerted their customers. Understandably, many here were very upset. Have since restored my account and all is well, then received this email from their support team yesterday, completely unprovoked:

"Hello ***,

We’re following up with you here regarding the 2-step notification you mistakenly received, which resulted in a security lock on your account.

As you know, on 27th August 2021, beginning at 1:45pm PST, Coinbase experienced a notification delivery issue that sent SMS text messages and email notifications alerting customers that their account 2-step verification settings were changed.

These notifications were sent in error. It appears you locked your Coinbase account out of an abundance of caution to ensure your funds were secure.

Since this notification was an error on our part, we have removed the account lock preventing you from signing in and trading on your account.

Within 72 hours, we will issue a $100.00 BTC credit to your account - we recognize these notifications caused confusion and this is not the experience we wanted you to have.

That's a pretty impressive response on their end to try and make things right, in my opinion. Kudos to them for owning their mistake and putting money behind a formal apology.
