Cold Storage

After four years in the BTC game I've finally made the leap to cold storage.

I've always understood the 'not your keys, not your corn' argument, but I've never felt the motivation to do anything about it. Especially through this last bear market where news was slow, there seemed very little urgency to change up my strategy.

For some reason, the ETF hype spooked the holy shit out of me. Unlike the majority of this sub, the fact that Blackrock et al are jumping on board does not fill me with ease. Quite the opposite; IMO institutional involvement with BTC brings a greater likelihood of manipulation/fuckery. I'm sure we're going to see massive scandals after the ETF approvals with retail getting the shitty end of the stick. It probably wouldn't have affected me, it probably won't affect you, but there's no 100% certainty without self-custody.

Anyway, I bit the bullet and got me a BitBox2.0 (Bitcoin only edition, obvs) which arrived today.

I've been setting it up and moving corn around for the last couple of hours. Just finished up, unplugged the device, lay down on the sofa and was hit with this greatest feeling of exhilarated relaxation. A feeling hard to describe. I feel more secure now with my modest amount of wealth than I ever have before. Not only am I sure that my assets are going to beat inflation, I'm also certain that my wealth is going to be safe. My seed phrase was generated on a device protected by a secure element, and has been copied down and stored in a secret and safe place. My money is now on the block chain. No-one can steal it from me at this point. No institution can take my money. No government can take my money. No motherfucker can take my money unless I give it to them.

I know this post isn't going to be very popular because the sub has suddenly been taken over by traders shilling the ETFs who say that ETFs and exchanges are safer than self-custody. Well, you do you. I know all my true hodlers know where it's at.

And to anyone else who has been holding for a few years but never sorted out self-custody... Well, it gives me great pleasure to say for the first time: get your coins off the exchanges! It's feels great when you do.
