In an effort to revive the nation's faltering meat industry, three Croatian businesses unveiled on Wednesday an online marketplace where investors can purchase "crypto pigs" that can eventually be turned into hog meat. According to Poslovni Dnevnik, Agroporc, Beyondi, and Blok Be launched the GoAgro platform where investors may buy pig NFTs (non-fungible tokens). The objective is to distribute about 240,000 Pig NFTs, each of which grows in 900 days for a cost of β¬250, or the equivalent of 100 kilos of hog flesh. The investment can be rolled over, sold, or exchanged for 107.5 kg of real pork flesh after 900 days. Agroporc will begin raising pigs on two of its farms with the money raised. Since pig farming was generally declining in Europe, the project's director, Kresimir Kuterovac, stated that connecting farmers and consumers directly was one of its goals. In Croatia, where it was negatively impacted by the recent epidemic of African swine fever, it is declining even more sharply: Kuterovac claimed that Croatia will soon be able to meet only 40% of domestic demand for pork meat from local production.
