Do you think the metaverse will succeed?

We have seen very few promising projects so far and unfortunately Facebook has made a bit of a joke out of the metaverse, but some of the plans that people have put forward for the metaverse as ideas do seem very cool, but do you think they will just stay ideas or do you think the metaverse will actually get off the ground and become something special. Personally I think the problem right now is its been driven by greed and shortsighted projects. It needs to become its own thing away from the greed of corporations.
