So something I ran across years back with my years on this planet is job scams. These types of scams are basically identity theft scams.
How it works in the job world is:
- Scammer post a job (the target is the desperate that is working 2 or 3 jobs, but I seen some for highly educated jobs)
- The person applies. In the application there is a ton of personal info like schools you went to, places you worked, name, and other things.
- They might interview you, and collect more data on you through this way. But for low end jobs they might just send a message to someone that they got hired.
- They will send some paperwork over email on normal HR paperwork. Some of it will ask for social security, maybe a scan of your ID, and other info.
- Then they will ghost the person from there on. They would use the info you gave them to steal your identity.
Because a lot of time people are desperate or don't know about the scam, they can get hundreds or more people for 1 job.
While I haven't heard much of this happening with exchanges and other things around crypto. It should be noted the type of info you are given out in a KYC. And how much/all the info can be used against you in an ID theft.
The best thing you can do IMO is to do a lot of research into something that wants KYC.
