When an app I download in app store releases a new version of software, I can usually choose not to update and I can still run the app without the changes.
When Consensys AKA Eth foundation makes changes to ethereum, as a node you have no choice. Any node that does not upgrade to the new hard forked chain becomes invalid. Your node software is destroyed. You are forced to accept everything the company decides.
Ethereum is more centralized than web2.
