It seems like Reddit’s mantra is to Dollar Cost Average (DCA). You can’t really disagree with someone who is DCA’ing. It’s a great strategy. You can’t time the lows so you buy every day, week, or month and accumulate coins. This works great in both a bear market and a bull market.
So how do you go about selling? Nobody really has a bonafide way of selling. It’s near impossible to time the top. Here’s what I think would be a great way to sell. I call it the Double Up Technique, in short DUT. Yes I just made this up lol.
The premise behind the double up technique is that once you double your position you sell half. Once you double again you sell half. You repeat this on and on.
Here’s an example. A lot of people got into bitcoin around 20k. Let’s say Joe bought 2 bitcoin at 20k. With my strategy, he will sell one bitcoin at 40k. And another half bitcoin at 60k. He will have sold 1.5 bitcoins for a grand total of $70k. His total portfolio would be worth about $87,500. Now if he just continued to hold, his portfolio would be worth $70k as of now.
Now you can also do this with a 50% increase instead of waiting for it to double. So every 50% increase you’d sell half your coins. This does help in crypto because there seem to always be bull and bear markets.
What do you guys think? What’s your strategy for selling?
