So just to catch up anyone that doesn't know, I got suckered into giving login details and had $6200 in ETH stolen from Gemini. Some redditors helped me trace it to Mexc.com. I contacted their CS, gave them a police report and the hashes and they froze the wallet.
I found a local cop who took my evidence and contacted them for me. I'm a little concerned about his report because he doesn't know a lot about crypto and was wondering if evidence he presented wasn't compelling enough.
Anyway, he got this from Mexc.com this morning:
"As we note that the purpose of your aforesaid correspondence to us were to provide your findings, there is no specific action to be taken by us. If, however, you wish to request for information to aid your investigations, or to request to freeze the account, or to seize the funds (if any) in the account in question, kindly provide the documents as necessary so that we may assist you. "
The detective said we'd likely have to get lawyers and judges involved.
Does anyone have experience with this. I thought these oversees exchanges were a little more willing to listen to evidence and make their own ruling since most clients are outside their jurisdiction.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
