How viable of a career is blockchain for someone who comes from a non CS background and wants to start a fresh career at 26? Does it run the risk of going obsolete in the future? Any guidance would be really appreciated!

Forgive my naivety as I'm at a point where I've only recently been introduced to Blockchain and its relevance, please bear with me.

To put it shortly, I've had an unsuccessful undergrad. (in Electronics) which I had to complete in 6 years and top it off I've taken a 2 year gap after it (with no work ex.) due to unforeseen personal issues.

Naturally, I'm now at a point where I'm looking for a new career to get things moving, something where my previous failures won't haunt my chances at a job too much. So this led me to focus a bit more a skill specific fields because being proficient in those skills would at least compensate for those past failures to an extent.

I came to know about Blockchain while I was trying to consider software as a field to work on and it naturally caught my eye given all the hype with Crypto and what not.

But after seeing so many polarizing opinions about it here, on r/cscareerquestions, on r/ExperiencedDevs, Quora etc. I've only gotten more confused. There's this feel to it that everyone's embracing it and how it's going to be the future while a lot of its detractors smash its relevance to pieces saying how it's fad and how it'll be dead not so soon from now.

I understand that before jumping into a niche like Blockchain it would require for me to have a good grasp on a lot of CS fundamentals and proficiency in a few languages and I'm ABSOLUTELY willing to give it all the time it needs and work my socks off.

The only thing stopping me though is this doubt over it's viability in the long run or future proof of a career this could turn out to be, especially since it's in a nascent stage and with how little there is about it on the internet.

Is a lot of what goes into learning blockchain (Solidity, Ethereum etc.) something which can remain relevant even if blockchain became obsolete?

A lot of people say that Blockchain will die once the dust settles and they get to know how inefficient it is compared to a lot of other standard models which can solve the same problem more easily?

In that case would taking a plunge into become a blockchain developer be extremely risky? Can a lot of the skills Blockchain demands branch out into jobs of their own which aren't necessarily affected if Blockchain indeed fades away?

It cannot be stressed enough on how much I would appreciate if anyone could guide or inform me specifically on this. and again I apologize for the naivety as I'm new (but curious and willing) at this

I'm at a really crucial point in my life and really need to sort things out as far as my career goes since my undergrad is as good as nothing for me. Thank you!
