I don't have an enormous amount of money, but whatever I have, I put into crypto. My idea was to build an index fund, on the assumption that the crypto market as a whole beats something like a sector-specific stock index fund over time.
So here I am, four years of hard labor later, with around 30 grand evenly distributed into... 107 coins ????The vast majority is top 100 coins, with some bets in the mid and low cap area. APY so far is 17.8%, which is close to the best staking coins, but with lower risk.
In short, this is similar to investing in a sector-specific stock based index fund. A percentage will die, a percentage will pump, but it doesn't cancel out because the downside per coin is minor, while upside is unbounded. And obviously the portfolio isn't static, so I'll add and remove coins over time (no trading crypto tax here)
Over time, I expect to do better than frequent trading, but worse than holding a coin that pumps (which I don't know how to pick, which is the whole point). This should perform on par with a decent staking return, at slightly lower risk.
Wish me luck fellow mooners!
