I could endlessly flesh this story out with details but for the sake of short attention span redditors , I'll cut a lot of corners and try to keep this as short as possible.
A guy I knew from high school that I haven't heard anything of for at least 5 years added me on Facebook one day and tried to get back in touch. (My entire inner/outer circle knows I'm obsessed with crypto since 2016). I thought that was a bit weird but he was quick to reveal his true motive and it was crypto related, he basically wanted me to help him get a grip around the concept of blockchain and how to set up a wallet, make payments etc...
We met up, had a drink and talked about the dumb stuff we did back in the day and then got down to business. I eventually figured out that he basically just wanted to use BTC to spend it on Nazi attire and other Nazi stuff on the darkweb. I'm personally slow to judge and fascinated by how people are getting to a point like this in their life, so without approving of his ideology I somewhat tried to act like I respected his "political" orientations, which he misinterpreted as me being open to his "ideas".
We met up a couple more times since outside his Nazi delusion he seemed to be a nice guy, a little insecure but overall good chap for a Nazi. Got introduced to his friends at some point which to nobodies surprise were all utter racists/Nazis/fascists'/whatever, some worse/dumber than others but they all agreed on the same outrageous shit. All they ever talked about was the same generic, hateful stuff but since they were/are all quiet young and around my age almost all of them were super interested in crypto, so every time someone brought up a Jewish conspiracy or something similar I deviated the topic into something crypto related which worked 80% of the time.
Eventually over the course of 1-2 months this Nazi-clique I slipped into as a very tolerant, left leaning guy almost completely turned away from negative IQ discussions about immigrants to very complex and sophisticated crypto topics/trading/investing even some DeFi related things (DeFi wasn't even a widely used term back then if at all).
The entirety of this time I theorized with myself what drives people into such hateful ideologies and as I got to know these people better it turned out almost all of them had some significant trauma, loss or lack of identity which drove them into a community with people that went through similar hardships and they all needed one or more enemy figures to project their pain/hate onto, despite it being irrational and quiet frankly ridiculous.
5 months in, I counted some of these Nazis as my close friends which makes me feel uncomfortable typing this out just now but that's just how it went. A lot of them just "forgot" a lot of their hateful stuff and exchanged that with other topics, mainly crypto to my liking. At this point I was hanging out with casual racists that liked crypto which was a big step in my mind but not good enough.
A guy I knew well from Uni was an Orthodox Jew, also had a Rumanian friend that was pretty dark who attended the same courses as I. Long story short, I approached both of them, explained the situation, Rumanian guy found it hilarious and was in, Jewish dude took a lot of convincing, which I somewhat understand lol. Both of these guys were into crypto as well, it was perfect.
I introduced my Uni buddies to my Nazi buddies in an apartment of a guy that still had a poster of Adolf hanging in his living room, which was very awkward but somewhat funny, it helped a lot that the Jewish guy said something like "Hey I think I know that guy! " with a soft chuckle, breaking the ice, which promptly revolved into a response of the apartment owner saying "Yea, I don't know why this is still hanging there I'm not that kind of guy anymore, sorry".
In the end, this entire network of Nazi-friends that I had was about 12 people, 2 of which couldn't get over their pain or whatever, they are still the same old, disconnected from everyone and even I have no contact to them anymore, I'm afraid they are still very much affiliated with that dogshit Nazi ideology but now they are also literate on crypto, I involuntary upgraded two nazis into crypto-nazis which haunts me a bit tbh.
The rest of them, which is a good 10 people of which I count 3 as close friends today have completely turned around their stance and are pretty embarrassed about their past in hindsight. Their entire life's have changed dramatically, it turned out all they needed was a group of people that followed a positive and productive hobby rather than hating people because you hurt yourself. Crypto did that for them. I don't know why but taking responsibility of your finances in a respectable fashion is a liberating thing for many that helps cutting out the bullshit in your life.
It's been a while since the "acute" phase of this story and I felt the need to share it with you guys. One of the converted peeps is browsing this sub on a daily, so if you read that Heinz .. I'm proud of you buddy, I know you are down 80% the last few months and instead of blaming jews, immigrants or anyone else you just hate yourself, as it should be. lmao
TDLR:
I infiltrated a nazi clique, introduced them to crypto and it dragged them out of their endless hate spiral.
