- The defendant is accused of an offence punishable with the death penalty, or imprisonment for an indefinite term or for a maximum term of more than ten years.

- The defendant is a repeat offender or commits habitual crimes.

- There are reasonable grounds to suspect that the defendant has destroyed or may destroy evidence.

- There are reasonable grounds to suspect that the defendant has fled or is likely to flee.

- The defendant's place of dwelling is uncertain.
