On this day, 9 years ago, the popular Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox filed for bankruptcy protection in Japan, after announcing that it had lost approximately 850,000 bitcoins, worth over $450 million at the time, due to a hacking incident.

The exact number of people who lost money in the Mt. Gox hack is difficult to determine, as the exchange had customers from all over the world, and many of them may have lost only a small amount of money.

However, it is estimated that around 24,000 customers were affected by Mt. Gox hack, and many of them lost significant amounts of money. Some customers lost their life savings or entire businesses as a result of the hack.

Mt. Gox hack was a significant event in the history of cryptocurrency and led to increased regulatory scrutiny of cryptocurrency exchanges. It also highlights the importance of storing cryptocurrencies securely and using hardware wallets possible.

Anyone in this sub who lost money in Mt Gox ? I was not into crypto around that time, but I sure read a lot about the hacking incident.

Also it's sad to mention that people still keep their hard earned money on CEXs, even after all these CEXs that went down.
