I recently wrote some longer format posts and always end up with people asking about LP for Moons.
This post will explain the whole process step-by-step.
TLDR at the bottom if you're already somewhat comfortable with MetaMask and DeFi.
1. Get your seed phrase from your vault
Get your 12 words seed phrase from your vault:
Vault -> Settings -> Recovery Phrase
Never share this with anyone, ever! If a scammer has it, they'll steal your Moons.
2. Install MetaMask
Install MetaMask from https://metamask.io/download/.
Click "Import Wallet" (not "create new wallet") and paste your seed phrase from step 1 there.
Now you control your Reddit vault address through a MetaMask wallet.
3. Deposit ETH to your MetaMask address
Go to your favorite CEX (centralized exchange, such as Kraken) and buy some ETH.
Withdraw it to your MetaMask address (format: 0x...).
If your exchange supports withdrawals to Arbitrum One besides Ethereum mainnet, it will be even cheaper. If you're not sure what this means, just withdraw to your Ethereum address.
Now, you have ETH on your MetaMask, either in Ethereum mainnet or Arbitrum One. Don't worry about it "not appearing in your MM wallet".
4. Bridge your ETH to Arbitrum Nova
Go to https://www.orbiter.finance/ to bridge the ETH to Arbitrum Nova.
Arbitrum Nova is where your Moons are.
Note: Arbitrum One is not the same as Arbitrum Nova. If you don't know what this means, just ignore it.
On Orbiter Finance, do the following:
- Select the network you're bridging from (it will be either Ethereum or Arbitrum, depends on where you withdrew in step 3)
- Select Arbitrum Nova for the network you're bridging to.
Click send and confirm. Note: MetaMask might ask you to add some network on this step, just approve everything.
At the end of this step, you will have ETH on Arbitrum Nova, ready to be put in liquidity pool with your Moons.
5. Add Arbitrum Nova to MetaMask
Go to https://www.sushi.com/swap.
In the header there is a dropdown with Ethereum pre-selected. Select Arbitrum Nova. This will add the network to your MetaMask wallet. Just approve that and click on "Switch Network".
6. Provide Liquidity
Go to Earn.
In the search bar, type "moon". Click on the ETH/MOON pool.
Click deposit and enter the amounts you want to stake (more details on this below).
Add liquidity and then click on the "stake liquidity".
Confirm everything MetaMask asks you to confirm.
Congratulations!
FAQ: How much Moons should you provide in LP?
There is currently a rule that you must hold 75% of your earned Moons to avoid earning less on the next Moon distributions.
This means that you shouldn't add more than 25% of your Moons to liquidity.
So if you have 2000 Moons, you can provide up to 500 without having penalties for next distributions.
FAQ: How much Ethereum do you need?
After you figure out how much Moons you want to use, you'll need the equivalent dollar amount in Ethereum.
So if you ended up with 500 Moons for liquidity in the first step, with MOON == ~$0.2, that's ~$100. So you need the equivalent amount of ETH to pool with.
I'd advise adding ~$20 more in ETH because there are gas fees you need to pay. They won't be that high, but I always consider it a good practice to have a bit more ETH just in case.
So TLDR: if you LP with $100 worth of MOON, deposit ~$120 worth of ETH in your wallet.
FAQ: It's clear, but how do I understand bridging better?
I already have a post about the details behind bridging over here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/12fdmcz/explained_what_is_bridging_and_how_does_it_work/
You don't need to read it to follow this guide, but if you're interested, feel free to learn more!
FAQ: I've heard about impermanent loss, should I take it into consideration?
I also have a post about impermanent loss over here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/12dducc/impermanent_loss_simple_explanation_liquidity/
It's good to educate yourself about it, but it's not that "scary" as many make it to be.
FAQ: How much will the gas fees be when bridging from Ethereum mainnet?
If you bridge from Ethereum mainnet, it should be somewhere between $4-8, depending on how busy the network is. Accept that you'll "lose" $10 in fees and you're good.
But if you bridge from Arbitrum One to Arbitrum Nova, it will be less than a dollar.
In any case, MetaMask will tell you the maximum fee and you can Approve or Reject the transaction.
TLDR for Intermediate Users
- Initialize a new MetaMask with your vault's seed phrase
- Deposit ETH to your MetaMask
- Go to https://www.orbiter.finance/ and bridge the ETH to Arbitrum Nova
- Go to https://www.sushi.com/earn and add liquidity to the MOON/ETH pool
