Safeguarding Satoshi’s Stash - Jameson Lopp

From what I see on his Twitter account, he believes in Bitcoin, and wants to protect it for the future. What needs to happen to get this conversation going in the right direction?

Bitcoin has to upgrade cryptography... as quantum computing is approaching capabilities putting today's cryptography at risk. Crypto has to deal with it just like everyone else has to.

So while It's not a bitcoin specific problem, there are reasons bitcoin needs to be ahead of the game, and needs more time to address it properly.

Yes, some tough decisions must be made. And yes, it will take a lot of work. And there will be impacts and tradeoffs.

But anything looking to stand the test of time must tackle a changing landscape without fear, and without blinders from outdated understandings of potential risk.

I've been posting on this a while as I've learned from following projects that talk about it often. The speculators believe/hope people may very well move to more secure options if nothing is done.

I personally don't see that happening because it would be crazy if this isn't addressed, right? We have advanced algos available to choose from, so why not tackle this? Again, some tough challenges, but the alternative is much much worse.

I do however think as bitcoin prepares for this, it will highlight the vision of these forward thinking projects that aim to serve other market needs of blockchain. And sure, I won't mind when that narrative lands. But even without a narrative (I hate the idea an investment depends on a narrative), I am looking to find projects that create business demand.

So I am completely in favor of quantum resistance being addressed by bitcoin, even if people hate the difficulties it presents.

In my view, it's good for all crypto to lead the way with the next level of cryptography.
