Sorry OP, but I'm not buying your story. There is no way your dad bought "3" bitcoins back in 2010. No one bought or traded such small quantities in those days. People would trade in blocks of 1000 bitcoins. Even the pizzas cost 10,000 bitcoins. Claiming he had a wallet.dat file would fit with the very early time frame of the pizza purchase (2010), but the quantity you are saying is on there (3) makes no sense at all.
Edit: I don't know what you mean by "folding", but if you meant that he was CPU mining back then, if his mining found any blocks, each block would have had 50 BTC. Not 3.
