Tokenization seems mostly awful . Am I wrong?

I got into crypto during the 2017 cycle and lost a ton of money trading alt coins, but I was fascinated by the projects.

I sat out the last cycle completely and now I have just a sliver of bitcoin that I plan on keeping until I retire, or longer.

I’ve been looking into buying some eth to go with it. I’m a pretty smart guy, if I say so myself, but I’m no developer and it’s hard to figure out what’s what in cryptolandia.

Eth seems like a good bet to me because Blackrock is building on it, and they are basically all about figuring out how to own everything of value in the world. Not to mention that Coinbase is building their layer 2 on eth.

That said, tokenization seems so awful to me. First, it seems like a way for capitalism to just gobble up even more of the world. With tokenization, everything can be up for sale, up to the freckles on my body and the leaves on the trees. And it seems like Blackrock is basically trying to own it all.

Aside from that, something that is fundamentally true about crypto is “not your keys, not your coin”. I don’t want my mortgage or common stocks moved on chain. Whether I control the keys to those assets or not, if they are lost it’s game over. In the current system, if the bank lost my mortgage, I could just verify with my own copy, or failing that, take them to court. If they are tokenized and something goes wrong, there is no recourse. I can see how tokenization might be an improvement in a less developed country without existing public infrastructure, but how is this an improvement in the US?

I feel like it’s probably a good idea to hold a little eth, because Blackrock always wins, but part of me wonders if the whole tokenization thing is doomed to fail, and another part of me prays that it does.

So far, the only real applications I’ve seen for blockchain are in supply chain management and ticketing. These seem like great applications, but asset tokenization gives me the ick.

Am I wrong in anything I’ve said?
