Trump expected to sign bill to end partial US government shutdown

The US House of Representatives approved a bill on Tuesday that will fund most of the government through the end of September.

The US House of Representatives approved a bill on Tuesday to reopen most of the federal government after a four-day partial shutdown. In a 217–214 vote, the chamber passed a $1.2 trillion funding package already approved by the Senate that will fund most government operations through Sept. 30.

The measure passed with some support from Democrats, many of whom were opposed to provisions in the bill over immigration enforcement policies.

US President Donald Trump is expected to sign the legislation and reopen the government, provided there are “no changes” to the Senate bill. While the package funds most federal agencies through Sept. 30, it provides the Department of Homeland Security with funding for only two weeks, forcing lawmakers to return to negotiations over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol funding.
