Two years ago on this day, Tesla started accepting Bitcoin as payment for their vehicles. On that day, Bitcoin was around $55K. Three weeks later, Bitcoin made it to about $65K. Shortly after, however, Elon Musk announced that Tesla will stop accepting Bitcoin for car purchases due to environmental concerns. The price of bitcoin dropped roughly 5% in the first minutes after Muskβs announcement. This was the start of a 50% crash to $28K, ironically the level we are at right now. It was promised that Tesla would resume payments in Bitcoin once miners would go green in that at least 50% of the energy for mining Bitcoin should be sustainable/green. Now, two years later, Bitcoin mining is actually green enough, as over 50% of the Bitcoin mining is done using green energy. So, the qualification that Musk set is met. Bitcoin mining is green enough. What are we waiting for? Two years later on the day seems like a good moment to start. Come on, Tesla! Or is Elon such a bad actor that we would rather not have him involved at all anymore? [link] [comments] |
