I like to stay up to date on what happens in the world and in the crypto space. Hence, I read a lot of news and browse /new here regularly. The quality of the news posts is terrible though. A lot of news is straight up inaccurate, lacks sources, or is unnecessarily sensationist, for instance due to clickbait titles. Example 1: Gary GenslerJust top post right now is just straight up nonsense. It suggests that Gary Gensler is accused of market manipulation in a $2.5 million short position. What is that Tweet based on? Some useless "BREAKING NEWS" post on Twitter from an engagement farmer account without a source: This news then gets shared all over dumb crypto media websites: Thankfully, the top reply here points out how this news item is bullshit. Still, people upvote it. Example 2: CZ and BinanceAnother example are all the posts that are sharing straight up lies about Binance. Im not trying to defend Binance here in any way shape or form, but a lot of the news posts are just wrong. For instance, there's news posts arguing that CZ is telling employees to keep quiet or leave. But that is absolutely not true. CZ said:
There's nothing in the letter sent by CZ saying that employees should keep quiet: Why is crypto media in such a bad state? Why is there so much misinformation and sensationalism? And why do we upvote this crap? [link] [comments] |
