One theory about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is that Bitcoin has actually been developed by the NSA (or a comparable government agency). The purpose of this post is not to discuss the merits of this theory. But I would be interested to understand what the proponents of this theory think could be the motivation for the NSA to develop and launch Bitcoin.
