So a lot of people will tell others to "read the whitepaper" for various projects, but I think some don't realize how much people hate reading. When someone first told me to go read the Bitcoin whitepaper, I had just ASSUMED it was going to be some 50 page thesis academic paper full of gibberish that I would not understand.
The truth is that it is only 9 pages worth of gibberish you will not understand (in the case of Bitcoin at least). So if you take the half an hour to read through it, and spend another half an hour going through and clarifying the things you dont understand, you can understand the technology behind bitcoin in an hour. IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE THIS, YOU SHOULD GO DO IT.
I personally didn't read the bitcoin whitepaper for an entire year because of my pre-set conception that it was going to be a long, painful read when in reality it can be done on a lunch break (I read the whitepaper a long time ago at this point, but I think this is still a common misconception among others). Just wanted to make this post for those who may have had similar misconceptions. It is a quick read, and you will feel good about reading it.
