We Have To Stop Pushing This Narrative That Blindly DCAing and HODLing A Coin Is Always The Best Strategy

Everywhere you go on this sub you see people pushing DCA and HODL this and that.

Hindsight is 20/20 and you can apply DCA models on BTC and ETH and come to the conclusion that DCAing and HODLing would’ve been all you needed to do to, “make it to the moon”.

However, this strategy simply does not apply to every coin and we have to stop blindly applying this strategy to every coin we invest in.

Just look at the historical snapshots on Coinmarketcap. You’ll see all kinds of coins in the top 5 that aren’t in the top 5 today.

January 2014 Top 5 Coins: 1) BTC 2) LTC 3) XRP 4) PPC (Peercoin) 5) OMNI

January 2015 1) BTC 2) XRP 3) LTC 4) XPY (PayCoin) 5) BTS (BitShares)

January 2016 1) BTC 2) XRP 3) LTC 4) ETH 5) DASH

January 2017 1) BTC 2) ETH 3) XRP 4) LTC 5) XMR

January 2018 1) BTC 2) XRP 3) ETH 4) BCH 5) ADA

January 2019 1) BTC 2) ETH 3) XRP 4) BCH 5) EOS

You guys get the point. But if you look at how the top 5 has changed you’ll see coins that many of you probably haven’t even heard of like PPC, OMNI, XPY and BTS. That’s because those coins simply didn’t pan out and a DCA & HODL strategy on those prior top 5 coins would’ve lead to a very HEAVY bag that probably will never recover.

Even some of these coins that are still relevant today like XRP, BCH and LTC aren’t even past the ATHs set last bullrun!

So can we please stop preaching DCA & HODL for EVERY SINGLE COIN in the market! In the end of the day, Crypto is still in its infancy and there is a 0% chance that most of these coins even survive till we reach retirement age.

In reality, investing into crypto requires actively staying up to date on crypto related news because top 5 coins change yearly and will likely be this way for many more years to come. It is very much a possibility that your favorite altcoin might turn out to be a shitcoin in a few years and if that were to happen to you, hopefully you’re well informed and up-to-date on the crypto news and are able to sell your bag before it’s too late.

In the end of the day, the only tried and true investing principle for crypto is to never invest more than you are willing to lose.
