I feel like I’m finally stepping into the future

Say what you will about Coinbase, as I agree with the concept of “not your seed not your coins,” but at this point Coinbase is becoming pretty damn close to a bank.

I’ve had the coinbase card for a long time now and I recently set up my direct deposit, 50% goes straight into BTC, 50% into USDC. I now can pay for food and groceries each month with just my Coinbase card without even having a bank. I do still have a bank and still deposit majority of my income to the bank, I’m not that intense, but the point is cash flows from my work straight into my Coinbase account and to the store without banks touching it, some of it straight into BTC.

I think to a lot of people here, what I just said is sort of like a “yeah duh that’s how it works,” which is right to say, but as someone who’s been watching BTC for near a decade and invested in BTC for 7+ years, this is incredible to me. 5 years ago I said this day would come, but I’d say it in a bit of a hopeful tone, not so much a knowing tone. And now that day has come. Nowadays I’m saying things like “blockchain is going to revolutionize the manufacturing world” and I would imagine that day will come too.

But regardless, I would imagine CEXs will only get better as “banks.” And while I acknowledge that using my Coinbase card isn’t quite the same as using cryptos to make real world purchases, it’s certainly a step toward that.

There’s a lot of talk about what steps will get us to adoption. I’m starting to think more CEXs that serve the function of banks will play a key roll. As much as I love this, I can’t lie and say I have 100% trust in Coinbase, but we’re only getting closer to the promised land baby. Soon enough, I’ll be using this account (or an account elsewhere) to pay for things directly with BTC. Can’t wait man, blown away by how far this whole thing has come.
